Board Expect Mid Table Finish

So I entered the new season with a belly full of beer and a hangover I have been carrying since the promotion party which celebrated the most successful year in the club's history. But I knew the hard work began now. I had to replace a scout and was able to bring in 3 extra coaches to add experience and depth to our backroom staff. Back of house was set up, now all I needed was for the players to do their bit.

Pre season was all smiles with a full round of wins. But the season started off with a large dose of reality. I decided to stick with largely the same players I had last season, but they were struggling to compete. I signed a gritty CM and a young pacy SC on deadline day which saw our luck change and we went on a bizarre streak of WLWLWLWLWL.

Disappointing as the defeats were, I was happy to say we sat comfortably in 10th and well clear of danger. But come the mid-season break I was given a shock as the board pumped money into the club and gave me a massive amount of money to spend! but what to do with it, hmmm...

I blew it all on 5 players including a structured deal to buy a 17 yr. prodigy from Hannover Park. We then went on a run of 8 wins in 9 which meant we were flirting with the continental places for a period but fell away towards the end and finished in 5th place. Shocked doesn't really describe it.

Board Expect Mid Top of the table finish

I knew that the fans and board were expecting a lot from this season, even though secretly I knew we had little chance of repeating the feats of the last campaign. I got a decent amount of money to spend but sold a lot more players than I brought, making well over 500k in transfer profits for the season. Including losing my star CB and DMC.

The preseason once again was full of wins against nobodies and we looked set to continue were we left off. We started the campaign with a 5-match unbeaten run and sitting comfortably in 6th. Then patch 11.3 happened. Our form dipped and we had slipped to 13th and looked like it would be in a relegation battle for us.

I set up some morale boosting friendlies.....we lost them both. My job looked in jeopardy when suddenly key players regained some of their lost form. We took 19 points out of a possible 27 which put us in contention for a top 6 finish. But 2 defeats left us in a very respectable 8th place finish.

Highs: Survive my 2nd year in the PSL, winning the South African Fa cup and qualifying for erm...African Continental Football? .

Lows: Conceding too many and inconsistent form. Losing in the Super 8 Cup final. We just didn't turn up that day.
